Kela I: Support for the Immune System
Any parent that has had a child born premature knows how it can impact the child’s health for the rest of the child’s life. I had a son born at 7 months and a daughter born at 7 ½ months so I can relate with all of the parents out there who know what it is like to go through digestive disorders, food and skin allergies, Colic, Acid Reflux, Pneumonia, Asthma, Croup, Bronchitis, etc. Between my two children, I think we experienced everything and then some. At times I felt like we were a permanent fixture in the doctor’s office and were living on antibiotics. It was a very difficult time raising these two children to say the least. It didn’t seem to matter how careful I was with their nutrition, diet, and care, these two children were sick a lot. Several times we came really close to losing them. On some days it was a battle just to keep them alive.
I was on one of the many business trips with my father when I asked the question Isn’t there anything that can be done to stop or slow down this endless round of sickness and medicine that my children were experiencing? When I asked that question, the issue of Free Radical Damage, the Superoxide Dismutase Enzyme and Anti-oxidants were not popular and very little was known about them. But this was the very support I was looking for. This question began the research and ultimately the formula for Kela I for support for the Immune system.
Lipid Peroxidation and Superoxide are toxin by-products produced by the body that can cause cell and tissue damage. Stress, heavy exercise, drugs, environmental pollution, sickness, air pollution, alcohol consumption and diet can contribute to the production of Superoxide. An enzyme called Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is produced within the body to combat the negative effects from the production of Superoxide by converting it into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen which the body can then excrete and eliminate. Basically, SOD is the bodies way of defending itself from Internal Toxins.
There are three forms of Superoxide Dismutase found in mammalian tissue. One is copper/Zinc Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) located in the cytoplasm of most cells. This enzyme is activated by copper and stabilized by zinc. It supports the body against infection and inflammation. Its function is to convert Superoxide into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. The second type of Superoxide Dismutase Enzyme is Manganese SOD. The manganese-activated SOD is present in cell mitochondria. It also converts Superoxide into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. When there is insufficient Manganese in the diet or if it is removed from the diet, the SOD activity ceases in the mitochondria. Therefore, a continuous supply of manganese is essential for optimal functioning of the Manganese SOD just like a continuous supply of copper and zinc is needed to support the Copper/Zinc SOD. The third form of SOD is Iron SOD.
The body uses the extra electron from vitamin C, vitamin E, and the mineral Selenium, to stabilize oxygen within the body so that it will not oxidize and cause tissue-cellular damage. As noted one of the by-products from the SOD enzyme is the conversion of superoxide into oxygen. If this oxygen is not stabilized, it can become a Free Radical and create more problems.
SOD also protects against ionizing radiation and the damage to tissue resulting from prolonged inflammation.
The body requires a specific molecular relationship between copper, zinc, manganese, iron, vitamin C, vitamin E and Selenium in order to make the three different forms of Superoxide Dismutase Enzyme. Additional research has shown that optimal benefits from the SOD enzyme occur when the minerals are used as an amino acid chelated mineral which provide high bio-availability compared to mineral salts. The use of amino acid chelated minerals, increases Erythrocyte activity by the SOD enzyme verses supplementing with other mineral forms.
Kela I had a major influence in supporting my children’s Immune System and eventually allowing their bodies to overcome the many problems they had as premature babies.
